Episode[]

The episode starts with Sarah battling a player as Ettala. Inspired, Peyton convinces Tom and Kaz to come with him to Mommark's castle, as Mommark was the one who created Ettala. They arrive at the castle, only to find the real Ettala guarding the door. Ettala realizes the presence of possible intruders when Kaz steps on a twig, and launches a power pulse attack. The boys quickly make themselves scarce, as Ettala comes to investigate, but doesn't see them. Tom has doubts about getting past Ettala now, but Peyton dresses them in twigs and branches, and easily deceive Ettala into thinking they are fellow Mommark mutants. Now in the lab, Peyton's attention is drawn to a clothed water cage, holding a starfish, Stelgar. Peyton takes advantage to briefly play with the starfish, before Stelgar runs up Peyton's arm. The starfish's wrangling causes Peyton to hop around in amusement, and the scanner light alerts a returning Mommark and Staluk that there is an intruder into the laboratory. Stelgar starts to run, and Tom and Peyton colliding allow Stelgar to escape, while Kaz is tangled by another mutation. The lights immediately flick on, as Mommark, Staluk, and Ettala have found them. Ettala frees Kaz, and the three are immediately questioned on their presence. Peyton tries to make up a story for Mommark so they can leave unharmed, but Mommark sees the empty water cage, and demands to know where Stelgar is. Peyton reveals that Stelgar has gotten out, and a horrified Mommark immediately orders Staluk out to find him. Mommark reveals they must get Stelgar back to the castle before it becomes too late.

Mommark explains that Stelgar is one of his dangerous creatures, and Peyton apologizes for letting Stelgar get out, but does not see how he could be dangerous. Staluk bursts in, revealing that he searched the castle grounds, but found no trace of Stelgar. Mommark fumes over how far away Stelgar could be by now. Kaz attempts to use the distraction to convince the three to leave, but Peyton instead volunteers the three to assist with the search. Despite desiring to feed the three to one of his experiments, Mommark decides to allow the three as he needs every inch of help he can get. The trio spend the entire night searching for Stelgar across the Forest of Life. At sunrise, Stelgar emerges from a small river, and the sun beats down on him. Suddenly, he increases in size considerably, and it soon becomes obvious why Mommark is so afraid! The three humans regroup, while Staluk and Ettala decide to go out on their own and look for Stelgar. Stelgar spots Owis picking some fruits, and steals them so he can eat. Owis notices his missing pile and angrily assumes it is one of Yokkis's pranks. Seeing something rustle in the bushes, Owis throws one of his fruits into the bush, and a giant Stelgar bursts out of the bush, having vomited over the fruit's disgusting taste. A horrified Owis hits Stelgar with a water attack, but the water only amuses Stelgar and makes him even bigger. Owis runs for it, but Stelgar easily catches him. Owis gives Stelgar a more powerful water attack, and is immediately thrown a good distance and badly injured in retaliation. The search party find the destroyed trees from the chase, and later on Owis himself, struggling to get up. Peyton returns to inform Mommark of Stelgar's location, but witnesses Mommark give Gespedan a bunch of Mugics for Staluk to use against Stelgar, along with revealing his fear that Maxxor will kill him if word about Stelgar gets out. Peyton reveals their knowledge, and Mommark sadly tells Peyton that Stelgar now must be destroyed, much to Peyton's sadness.

Gespedan races to get the mugics to Staluk, but is horrified when he runs into a giant Stelgar. His Pyro blaster succeeds in keeping Stelgar at bay, and he proceeds to run. Peyton rejoins Tom, Kaz, and the others and reveals the new mission now. At that point, Stelgar appears from over the hill, and Staluk, Ettala, and Owis immediately engage the giant starfish. However, all they succeed at doing is getting the starfish angry, and the enormous hailstorm attack Stelgar unleashes forces the three creatures to take cover. Impressed with the attack, Kaz decides to scan Stelgar, but the starfish approaches enraged, believing that Kaz is trying to hurt him. Stelgar's size also means that Kaz's scanner won't lock onto Stelgar, and Kaz panics when he realizes Stelgar's searing death glare. However, Kaz's cringing in fear causes Stelgar to drop the threat and look at Kaz surprised, remembering him in the castle. Staluk launches another rockwave attack, but this causes Stelgar to grab Kaz and eat him and then run off to Tom and Peyton's horror!

Tom is about to cry, as it dawns on him that Kaz is dead, but Kaz calls, and reveals he was able to survive thanks to quickly using his scanner. As he has a Lake Pouria scan, Kaz will quickly return. Gespedan arrives, giving Staluk the mugics from Mommark, and Staluk admits that Stelgar has to die. Peyton begs with Tom to help him save Stelgar, but Tom, having seen how dangerous Stelgar truly is, admits the creatures have no other choice but to kill him. Gespedan uses his pyro blaster to get Stelgar out of the forest, and Stelgar chases Staluk to Lake Pouria.. Trapped on the lake's bank, Staluk then casts one of the mugics, revealing that it is Decrescendo. Stelgar starts to shrink under the mugic's influence, but Gespidan and Owis cast the other two Decrescendo mugics and Stelgar shrinks back down to his small size, allowing Kaz to scan him. The creatures immediately converge on the powerless starfish and prepare to kill him, but Peyton pleads with Staluk to show mercy, and bring him back to Mommark's castle. However, Staluk is adamant that Stelgar has to die, as Stelgar is far too dangerous and he could get lose again. The distraction provides the time for the three Decrescendo mugics to wear off and Stelgar grows once again, though not the same size he was previously. Tom tries to reassure Peyton that he did everything he could to save Stelgar, but Peyton admits he has an idea. Staluk orders the creatures to keep Stelgar in the water. Peyton starts throwing rocks at Ettala and insulting him, and Ettala is easily tricked into blasting the dam above Lake Pouria. The lake rapidly fills and Stelgar is swept beneath the waves. Tom and Kaz flee, and Gespedan asks Staluk what they will tell Mommark. Staluk, presuming that Stelgar drowned in the sudden torrent, decides to tell Mommark the truth that Stelgar is dead. Peyton wishes the presumed deceased Stelgar farewell, before porting out as well. Later on, undernath Lake Pouria in the Underworld, Rothar is walking down the cliff when he is given a large splash of water. He turns, angry, but quickly surprised when he sees the badly weakened Stelgar. Rothar offers his hand, and one of Stelgar's fins takes it, revealing that Stelgar is alive!

Myths[]

Discontinuity, Goofs, Plot Holes and Errors[]

  • Staluk is shown to have a mugician in the episode's climax, despite the fact that his card stats show he does not have a mugician.
  • Decresdenodo makes it's debut in the show.

Allusions, References and Appearances[]

Continuity[]

  • The creatures of Perim have their own distance names, as Momark uses the term glents, and Peyton uses the term fligets, likely in human words, kilometers and miles.
  • This is definitely one of the more serious episodes in the first season, as Kaz is almost eaten, and Stelgar is explicitly ordered killed, and later is presumed dead, though the ending reveals he survived, and while Mommark is also concerned about how dangerous Stelgar is to other creatures, his other motive for having Stelgar killed is to prevent Maxxor from finding out about his creation to prevent himself from getting killed.
  • This episode reveals that Maxxor has repeatedly warned Mommark about creating dangerous creatures, and Mommark explicitly fears that if Maxxor were to find out about his role with Stelgar, Maxxor would banish him from the OverWorld. Or even worse, possibly destroy him.
